I read his grace Bishop Seraphim‘s post on the Priest-monk Lev Gillet (who wrote as “a monk of the Eastern church”), and it gives me hope that perhaps I am not so odd a creature in my church after all. Silence is essential on the path of salvation, but I was beginning to think I would need to cultivate it also just to make it anywhere in churchmanship as a profession. Father Lev studied diversely and advocated a vigorous intercourse between Church and culture; this gives me hope that my opinions need not necessarily be tacit. (Of course, Bishop Seraphim regularly concelebrates at New Skete; considering their reputation and the similarity of my views to theirs, perhaps I should keep silent anyway.)

Ahem… that is quite the catchy post title.
Last summer, I read Fr. Lev’s little book, Be My Priest (SVSP). It was one of the more inspiring things I read last year. His insights are so good. Truly, he was and still is a living icon.
Btw, the icons in Bishop SERAPHIM’s photos of St. Gregory’s are beautiful. Thanks for linking to that post.
