The House and the Senate have once again made the same mistake they made with the actions that sparked the War Between the States. They have voted to override Nevada’s veto of nuclear waste disposal in Yucca Mountain.

It evades my comprehension why the disposal of nuclear waste falls under federal jurisdiction. Did the federal government by law force the various States of the Union to build nuclear power plants? No, each State of its own volition purposed to build them. Now, wanting to be rid of their plants’ lethal excrement, they desire to bequeath it to the State of Nevada alone, against the pleas to forbearance made by the citizens of that State.

The right of the States to secede from the Union not having been abolished by Constitutional amendment, and only having been restrained by martial force in the War, I propose that Nevada secede from the Union. This unlawful and unconsitutional violation of Nevada’s rights cannot be ignored, and perhaps secession is the only way to awaken the Federal Government to the consequences that follow upon the abuse of power.
