Kevin Basil

“The more I study the history of the Orthodox Church in this country, the more I am convinced that our work here is God's work; that God himself is helping us; that when it seems as though everything we do is ready to fail, …on the contrary, it not only does not die, but grows in new strength and brilliance.” [said just before leaving the United States for Russia]

Heaven bend to take my hand;
I’ve nowhere left to turn.
I’m lost to those I thought were friends,
To everyone I know.

Oh, they turn their heads, embarrassed,
Pretend that they don’t see.
But it’s one mis-step,
One slip before you know it,

And there doesn’t seem a way to be redeemed.

Though I’ve tried, I’ve fallen.
I have sunk so low.
I’ve messed up.
Better I should know,
So don’t come around here,
And tell me, “I told you so.
