Rachel at blogs4God wonders why hackers and geeks use the word “foo” so much. Well, Rachel, the word has a long history. The short form is that it was in use at the MIT Artificial Intelligence lab at the dawn of hacker culture. From there, it has become the most popular metasyntactic variable in American hacker culture.
